Biography
Actor/Translator/Director/Writer
Hometown: Laredo, TX (on the Mexican border)
For twenty-six years this alumnus of The University of Texas at Austin has
specialized in all facets of theatre, film and audio production. Recipient
of numerous acting and writing awards, Jan works primarily as voice-talent,
translator and producer in both English and Spanish and is frequently called
upon to voice many commercials and audio-visuals in the many accents and dialects
in his repertoire. Based in Charlotte, NC, he has voiced and directed commercials
throughout North and South America for clients such as MacDonald’s, Kraft
Macaroni and Cheese, Subway, Wachovia and Bojangles. He has been a German announcer
for the Toledo Octorberfest, upper-class British for Westlake Villas among
others, Australian, Scottish, Irish, Russian, Italian and French. He has also
translated, produced and directed commercials and audio-visuals for Denny’s,
Subway, MacDonald’s, Sports Chalet, Toyota, the State of Virginia, Riverside
County’s Credit Union, among hundreds of others.
Jan is also active in theatre as an actor, director and playwright, having
had plays in the San Francisco Dramarama Competition, The Jewel Box Theatre
Playwrighting Award, The Love Creek Short Play Festival and the Theatre Conspiracy
Annual New Play Contest. His most recent play The Cosmological Constant was
chosen to be workshopped at the Apple Box New Play Development Company. This
past fall he played the role of Feste the Jester in Twelfth Night at the North
Carolina Shakespeare Festival.
As a contribution to the community, Jan is active in NC Greenpower, an organization
dedicated to the fostering of renewable sources of energy. He also teaches
English as a second language as a volunteer with the Charlotte International
House.
